For almost a thousand years people have flocked to Nidaros Cathedral. Although the church has been razed by fires and suffered the ravages of time, the spiritual life of the church has always thrived. Today Nidaros Cathedral's parish council is responsible for all activities in this Norwegian national shrine.

Thus the Cathedral is a dynamic parish church featuring all the normal ecclesiastical functions and activities. The ministers are responsible for all services, baptisms, confirmations, weddings and burials. Nidaros Cathedral's parish council is responsible for music in the church, religious instruction, deacon services and other parish activities.

Church music is a vital part of all services and religious activities in the Cathedral. With five choirs the Cathedral offers quite a few recitals. The Cathedral even has a minister administering to the needs of pilgrims.
