The St. Olav altar-front
The St. Olav altar-front most likely dates from the first half of the 14th century, and depicts stories from the time around the Battle of Stiklestad on 29 July 1030. Olav himself stands in the middle, and surrounding him we see from top left Olav dreaming of Jacob's ladder before the battle, below he gives money to a peasant so that masses will be read for those of his enemies who would die in the battle. At bottom right he is killed, and above that he is declared a saint on 3 August 1031. |
