New Doors for Nidaros Cathedral
The three portals on the iconic west façade of Nidaros Cathedral will be fitted with new doors. Crafted from solid oak and reinforced with wrought iron, the doors will be given a deep red colour designed to harmonise with the cathedral and its surroundings.

The project is a collaboration between Danish sculptor Fredrik Tydén, responsible for the artistic design, and craftsmen from the Restoration Workshop of Nidaros Cathedral (NDR). The work represents a pioneering effort, as there are no existing cathedral doors—either in Norway or abroad—that can be directly copied.
Great emphasis is placed on traditional craftsmanship, material quality and long-term durability. The new doors are scheduled for completion in time for the National Jubilee in 2030.
