This photo exhibition shows a selection of unique photos from the reconstruction of Nidaros Cathedral, and the artists and craftspeople who made this work possible. The pictures have been restored and coloured to bring the past one step closer.
Nidaros Cathedral is built over the tomb of St. Olav, the Viking king who brought Christianity to Norway. Construction work began in 1070, and the cathedral was completed around 1300. After several fires and a lack of maintenance in the Middle Ages, the cathedral was in very poor condition. In 1869 extensive restorations were begun, and today the cathedral is again restored to its original grandeur.
The exhibition also introduces visitors to Olaf Nordhagen. He is considered the most influential architect behind the restoration of Nidaros Cathedral's west front.
The exhibition was created in collaboration with the agency Klipp og Lim.
