Summer organ series | Brita Sjöberg

Welcome to the summer organ concert series in Nidaros Cathedral 2026.

Prelude and fugue in e minor by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), performed by cathedral organist Brita Sjøberg from Nidaros Cathedral, Trondheim, Norway. The organ is built by Joachim Wagner (1690-1749) and was put up in the church in 1741 by the student Johann Peter Migendt. The organ was restored in 1994 by Jürgen Ahrend. Trondheim is a member city of ECHO – European Cities of Historical Organs. The Wagner organ is played during most of the summer concerts. Brita Sjöberg (*1979) comes from the Dalarna area in central Sweden. She has a masters degree in church music from the School of Music in Piteå at Luleå University of Technology, where she studied organ with Professor Gary Verkade. She also has a soloist diploma from the Danish Royal Acadamy of Music in Copenhagen, where she studied organ with Professor Hans Fagius.

Her debut concert, which included music for organ and choir, took place in St Markus church in Copenhagen in 2008. From 2010 she has lived and worked in Norway, and in 2022, she was appointed cathedral organist of Nidaros cathedral in Trondheim, the national sanctuary of Norway.

Sjöberg has given numerous concerts throughout Scandinavia and Europe, and has participated as an artist in international music festivals. She has performed with orchestras such as Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and The Norwegian Air force band. Sjöberg is also an Artistic Director for Trondheim in the organization ECHO, European Cities of Historical Organs.
