Summer organ series | Yuka Ishimaru

We have a long and proud tradition of organ concerts every Wednesday evenings during the summer, and invite guests from near and far. What all of these have in common is that they are musicians at the absolute top level.

This year we are especially looking forward to hearing three artistic directors from the organization ECHO (European Cities of Historical Organs) as well as this year's ECHO Young Organist of the year, David Kiefer.

In addition, we will have a unique visit from Japan by the award-winning organist Yuka Ishimaru and also a colleague from our neighboring country Sweden, Susannah Carlsson from the cathedral in Lund. These summer concerts are an excellent opportunity to hear our extraordinary historical organs here in Nidaros Cathedral in their full glory!

Yuka Ishimaru's artistic vision in concert production and programming is highly recognized. She is passionate about promoting organ culture and education.

Ishimaru graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, where she also received a master's degree. She continued her education at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

She has given concerts at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris and has toured extensively in Europe and Japan, performing with major orchestras around the world, including the Lyon National Orchestra and the Stuttgart State Orchestra.

She has appeared in numerous television and radio programs, and has released four albums. Her most recent is "Ruri-iro no Chikyuu – Kaze no Uta" from 2024.

Ishimaru is house organist at the Tokorozawa Civic Cultural Center MUSE and director of the Kokopelli Organ Studio.
